The Department of Agriculture, Land Reform and Rural Development (DALRRD) Bursary is inviting the qualifying South African students to apply for Bursary Programme 2024 academic year.

About the DALRRD Bursary 2024

The DALRRD runs several programs for the betterment of the agricultural sector and rural areas of the country. Part of it is the Department of Agriculture, Land Reform, and Rural Development (DALRRD) bursary.

The bursary is awarded to both undergrad and postgrad students. For undergrad students, here are some of the programs that are covered by the bursary:

The bursary will cover the following expenses; Accommodation, Tuition costs, Books and study materials, and Monthly allowance for food and meals.

The bursary offers mentorship opportunities, too, so that the students get help with employment.

Requirements you need to apply for the DALRRD bursary

  • You must be a South African citizen
  • You must be currently in Matric or have completed Matric
  • You must be interested in studying in the fields of study mentioned above
  • You must intend to pursue the degree from a recognized South African tertiary institute
  • You must be at a disadvantage financially
  • You must be from a poverty-stricken, rural area
  • You must be with the aim to pursue a career in agricultural, rural development, or land reform
  • You must have scored between 50 to 59% for Level 4in Maths and Physics if applying to Food Technology (National Diploma), Land Surveying/ Geomatics/ GIS (National Diploma/ Bachelors Degree), Town/ Regional Planning (National Diploma/ Bachelors Degree).
  • You must have scored between 60 to 69% or Level 5 in Maths and Physics For Animal Science, Entomology, Food Sciences, Pasture Science, Plant Pathology, Viticulture, and Oenology.
  • You must have scored between 70 to 79%, or level 6, in Mathematics and Physics in Matric, If applying for Bioresource engineering or Veterinary Science.
  • Students with disabilities are encouraged to apply

Note: Applicant cannot be a staff member of the department

Submit clear copies of the following supporting documentation along with your completed application form (the submission of these documents is compulsory – if any items are missing, your application be disregarded

  • ID documents (certified copy)
  • Academic records (certified copy)
  • Acceptance letter from the university (on tertiary letterhead)
  • ID documents of parents or guardians (certified copy)
  • Matric certificate (only for undergrad students — submit the latest results if the certificate is not available yet)
  • Qualification records (certified copy)
  • Proof of household income (latest payslips, if employed, or unemployment form from Department of Labor, if unemployed)
