About the Bursary

ITHUBA Holdings RF (Pty) Ltd (The 3rd National Lottery Operator), is on a quest to ensure that South African youth, from previously disadvantaged communities, receive the education they deserve and to bridge the social divides that exist in the country. ITHUBA is again awarding qualifying students with 100% bursaries for the year 2023, and applications are now open.

High-achieving learners in Grade 12 and first or second-year tertiary students are invited to submit their applications to be awarded an all-inclusive bursary covering everything from academic tuition, technology equipment, stationery, study material, accommodation, and stipend.

Aims of the bursary

The ITHUBA Holdings bursary aims to assist South African youth from previously disadvantaged communities, by funding their tertiary studies within sectors in high demand, namely Commerce and Information Technology.

The ITHUBA Bursary Programme will be awarded for studies within the following fields:

Commerce;

Accounting,
Management Accounting & Finance
Marketing

Information Technology fields;

Computer Science
Computer Engineering
Information Systems
Communication Networks
Software Development.

Requirements you need to apply for the Bursary

Applicants must satisfy the following minimum entry criteria before applying (please note that failure to satisfy all the requirements will lead to your application not being considered):

You must be a South African citizen
You must have completed Matric
You must be 25 years old or younger
You must be studying or have been accepted to study, toward a qualification in one of the fields listed above
You must be studying or have been accepted to study at a recognised and accredited tertiary institution in South Africa
You must achieve a minimum result of 70% for each subject, in your previous year of study
You must achieve a minimum overall average of 70%, in your previous year of study
You must be willing to specialise in a Commerce or IT field of study
You must be dedicated to your studies and intend on maintaining a strong academic record throughout your studies
You must be from a previously disadvantaged background
You must have a total household income of NOT more than R350 000 per year
You must have a vision and mission that aligns with the Foundation (you must be diligent, enthusiastic, dedicated to succeed and give back to your community)

Submit clear copies of the following supporting documentation on your online application profile (the submission of these documents is compulsory – if any items are missing, your application may be disqualified):

ID document (certified copy)
Matric certificate (certified copy)
Last year’s academic transcript/ results, if currently studying (certified copy)
Proof of provisional admission/ acceptance at a tertiary institution (on institutions letterhead)
Proof of provisional admission for residency or private accommodation (on institutions letterhead)
Parent’s or guardian’s ID documents (certified copies)
Parents or guardian’s proof of household income (latest payslip or employment letter if employed/ affidavit if an informal trader/ affidavit if unemployed/ SASSA letter if receiving a grant: certified copy)
Motivational letter, explaining why you should be awarded the bursary

Note: Shortlisted applicants will be invited to attend an interview, thereafter successful applicants will be contacted. If you do not receive any feedback then please accept that your application was not successful.
